SUNKOSHI RIVER RAFTING
The Sunkoshi River is one among the best ten rivers in the world. Also popularly known as “Golden River”, the Sun Koshi happens to be the longest river in Nepal, cascading 270 km, all the way through Mahabharat Lekh Mountains to the Himalayas. Paddling along this prudent river, we are literally catapulted to the nature’s lap, enthusiastically showering our glance on every single object we pass by. This sheer awe-inspiring whitewater rafting against the raring rapids continues from the put in point below the Village of Lamosanghu to the put out approach the pristine hamlets on the terraced hillsides. En route, we can behold several exotic wild lives like languor monkeys, spotted deer, otter anteater etc., including many beautiful species of birds. We will also be paying our visit to several Hindu temples. The trip concludes with a flight from Biratnagar to Kathmandu.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu International Airport
Upon your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from Swagat Holiday Treks & Expedition will receive and transfer you to your hotel. After you are greeted with welcome drinks at the hotel, we will have to quick meeting to discuss the necessary formalities regarding your trip. You can then check in to your room, freshen up and rest. Or if you are not one of those “lay back” types, you can take a stroll around the vicinity of your hotel and get the feel of this hyperactive capital city of Nepal. On the streets, people seem to be on sheer rush, barely noticing one another, but if you utter “Namaste”, they will definitely reciprocate with a smile; well that’s Nepal’s culture. We will stay overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu city sightseeing (1400m)
A short stroll in the evening yesterday might not have acquainted you with Kathmandu. So we want to make sure that you know this city as you know yourself. Once done with your breakfast, let’s hop in to our reserved vehicle and then on for a comfy ride with one of our experienced city guides. You will be visiting the most renowned historical/cultural landmarks in Kathmandu. Our guide will take you to the Pashupatinath Temple (the most revered Hindu shrine), Swayambhunath (the Monkey Temple) and Kathmandu (Basantapur) Durbar Square. All these sites are enlisted in the UNESCO world’s heritage list. After this informative and interesting tour, we drive back through the busy and noisy streets of Kathmandu to the serene premises of your hotel. We will stay overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 03: Early drive from Kathmandu to Balephi, Raft from Balephi to Dolalghat
Early in the morning, we drive through a 65 km route for 3 hours to get to Balephi, our raft put-in point. After arriving at Balephi, lunch is served. Prior to rafting, we undergo a thorough briefing session. We then gear up for the sizzling rover sport in the company of an expert river guide. Paddling along the rhythm of the roaring river amid the picturesque landscapes, exquisite wilderness, and panorama of majestic hills, we paddle towards Dolalghat. On reaching Dolalghat, we witness terraced fields and traditional Nepali houses perched on hillsides and slopes. This place is renowned for the superabundant availability of fish. Many seafood freaks from Kathmandu, come to Dolalghat Just to sample a succulent range of fish cuisines.
The thrilling adventure concludes for the day with camping at a superb site by the riverside. We will stay overnight at a tent in Dolalghat.

Day 04: Raft from Dolalghat to Puchar Ghat
We continue rafting against the thrashing rapids. By the time this exhilarating river ride meanders against class IV- “No Exit” and “meat grinder” rapids towards Puchar Ghat, it becomes much easier to control the fast-paced whitewater run. Pristine Tamang villages hood up into the picture. Eventually, after hours of succumbing to unpatrolled rafting challenges, we arrive at our campsite in Puchar Ghat. We will stay overnight at Tent in Puchar Ghat.

Day 05: Raft from Puchar Ghat to Dhani Ghat
As the rafting trip advances further, we get more familiarized with the topology of this prudent river, besides rendezvous with exhilarating scenic rapids. The breathtaking scenery and ethnocultural heritages further add to the gravity of this sizzling trip. Consistently padding through the swift waters, we will arrive at our splendid campsite in Dhani Ghat by the side of the roaring Sun Koshi. We will stay overnight at a tent in Dhani Ghat.

Day 06 Raft from Dhani Ghat to Harkapur
As the day’s rafting progresses, the river trip meets a series of white water rapids with various intensities at regular intervals. We encounter an amazing boulder-strewn whitewater bonanza. On rafting towards Harkapur, we struggle against class III rapids. The trip gets more challenging and intimidating as the torrential rapids upgrade to class V. The professional expertise of river guide coupled with extreme precaution and safety measures play key roles at this point. After this adrenaline rafting trip, we camp at Harkapur. We will stay overnight at Tent in Harkapur.

Day 07: Raft from Harkapur to Rai Ghat
Rafting past Harkapur literally puts us in the face-off with the class IV rapids as we enter the confluence of the Dudh Koshi River. Amidst a splendid environ, the river widens below the Dudh Koshi and flows through a broad valley after mellowing down. In comparison to Sun Koshi, the Dudh Koshi is much colder. After having maneuvered through awesome rapids like Rapid Punch, Judy, high anxiety, Motorcycle, Harkapur 1, Harkapur 2, and Harkapur 3, we eventually reach Rai Ghat, where we set a camp for tonight. We will stay overnight at Tent in Rai Ghat.

Day 08: Rest cum an excursion day at Rai Ghat
Rafting is a strenuous sport and indeed gobbles up a lot of calories. This extra day at Rai Ghat is meant for rejuvenating the lost energy and flexing our aching muscles. Nonetheless, we just are not lying flat all day. On good weather we can witness the awesome ambiance of the campsite including a good view of the Mt. Everest. We spend the day strolling around the campsite and taking some snapshots of the fascinating milieu. Or if you feel yourself kind of smelly, this is the best time to get indulged in some thorough cleansing/washing. We will stay overnight at Tent in Rai Ghat.

Day 09: Raft from Rai Ghat to Raswa Ghat
Battling against the rapids like “Jaws” and “Dead man’s Eddy”, we raft past a suspension bridge and a huge eddy. The pulsating venture continues as we paddle ahead for more challenging white water rafting. The combo of exotic wilderness and natural beauty remain our constant companions throughout this thrilling river trip. Our river guide provides us informative snippets from time to time. The day’s rafting trip concludes at Raswa Ghat. We will stay overnight at Tent in Raswa Ghat.

Day 10: Raft from Raswa Ghat to River Ghat
Relishing the views of wild verdant vegetation, rock-strewn cliff, and house-sized boulders alongside, we bounce and splash against the untamed river. Further ahead, we encounter continuous white water rapids like “Rhino Rocks” and “Jungle Corridor”. Keeping our spirits elevated and biceps busy, we eventually arrive at our campsite in River Ghat. We will stay overnight at Tent in River Ghat.

Day 11: Raft from River Ghat to Rani Tar
As the untamed river cuts against the rocky banks, crash into rocks and crevices breaking into foaming white water rapids, we position the raft securely abiding the instructions of our river guide. Enjoying the stunning scenery, we paddle through the narrow canyons and furious rapids like “Chambre Ghat” and “Darsandhungat” until we arrive at Rani Tar. We will stay overnight at Tent in Rani Tar.

Day 12: Raft from Rani Tar to Chatara, drive from Chatara to Biratnagar
On this last rafting day, we kiss goodbye to Rani Tar paddling along the imperial rapid, “Big Dipper”. Soon after discovering the enchanting waterfalls and paradisiacal side canyons, we enter the Tribeni Ghat, the confluence of river Arun and Tamur. It is from this point where the Sapta Koshi River begins. Like all good things come to an end, our sizzling water fiesta concludes as we arrive at Chatara. There is a Barahi Temple in the vicinity of Chatara. We can visit this temple and offer our prayers and gratitude for having successfully accomplished the venture with the blessings of God. From Chatara, we drive all the way to Biratnagar, the second biggest city cum an industrial hub of Nepal.
Owing to its proximity to the Indian border (Jogbani), Biratnagar gives us the reminiscence of a typical Indian city. We drive into our hotel and relax for some time, retrospection on the awesome water journey we just had. In the evening, we can stroll around the local market place and some industrial sites. We will stay overnight at the hotel in Biratnagar.

Day 13: Flight from Biratnagar to Kathmandu
A good night’s sleep on the comfy beds of the hotel after almost a fortnight in the congested tents would perhaps wake us afresh! After breakfast, we drive to the Biratnagar airport and then board on a flight back to Kathmandu. In just about 35 minutes, we land at the domestic wing of the Kathmandu airport. You will then be driven to your designated hotel, where you can rest and relax for some time. The remaining times are on your own; you would probably want to indulge yourself in some souvenir shopping. Thamel is your hot spot for shopping. Hoard anything that strikes you but make sure you portray yourself as a shrewd customer when it comes to bargaining, or else you might just be ripped off by one of the seemingly amiable storekeepers. Once you are done, get back to the hotel and do some packing.
We have the last bit of fun still in store for you. In the evening, Swagat Holiday Treks & Expedition will host a dinner program featuring a range of traditional Nepali cuisines and cultural shows. Cut loose but sleep tight. We will stay overnight at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 14: Final departure to your homeland or onward destination
Unless you intend to extend your trip, this will be your last day in Nepal. A representative from Swagat Holiday Treks & Expedition will escort you to the Tribhuwan International Airport, three hours prior to your flight schedule.
As you wave us goodbye and enter the terminal block, you would perhaps recall your arrival at this place. No wonder, everything seems so familiar now, because you had come here as a tourist, but you are going back as a friend. Have a safe flight back home and we look forward to being your travel companion in Nepal again.
