Trip Introduction


Lower Mustang Trek is the marvelous tea house trek in Nepal Himalaya. Which lies in the north-central part of Nepal, the trek pursues the old ancient trading trail to Tibet of the Kali Gandaki gorge. It is the gateway of Nepal’s hidden treasure. The trekkers can see the wonderful landscapes of lower Mustang and reach to the Hindus and Buddhists sacred pilgrimage Muktinath Temple.
Lower Mustang trekking is amazing a paradise where we can observe the notable views of the two Himalayan grants; Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. On the way to Lower Mustang trek, we can discover and perceive the lifestyle and traditions of Gurung, Magar, Tibetan and Thakali, one of the ethic communities of Nepal.
Lower Mustang Trek is a wonderful trek in Nepal which allows access to the high mountains of the Himalaya within a sensible time and without ascending to thrilling altitude. This trek is reflected as one of the most alluring and pleasant regions in Nepal. We will also get the chance to visit some of Nepal ancient Buddhists monasteries, earliest village etc.
The short and scenic route of Lower Mustang Trek is a perfect combination of natural and cultural experience in Annapurna & Mustang region of Nepal. All the parts are surrounded by the worlds popular Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Ranges. We consider the trek as an easy and scenic is suitable for the beginner to experienced trekkers. Highlights of the Lower Mustang Trekking includes comprises of Ghorepani, Poonhill as well as Jomsom, Muktinath where we explore cultural tradition & lifestyle of indigenous peoples. We will get chance to ascend to Poonhill for tantalizing sunrise view over Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massif, explore world’s deepest Kali Gandaki Gorge (valley), holy religious temple.
Lower Mustang Trek takes you into the hidden world of Mustang’s old Buddhist Kingdom, also known as the Tibetan empire and is thus closely related to Tibet. Tibetan Buddhism is still practiced in a very pure form and villages are built in Tibetan style, with whitewashed houses tucked onto the roofs with firewood.
Additionally, the landscape is closely related to Tibet. Mustang lies in the region of a rain shadow and it dominated by the Dhaulagiri family and the Tukuche Range. The villages with their brightly colored fields are like an oasis in lower mustang Nepal has a barren landscape.

Day 01: arrive at Kathmandu (1400m/4593ft) and transfer to Hotel
 You will arrive in Nepal at Tribhuvan International, Kathmandu. Tribhuwan International Airport is the only airport in Nepal. You can meet our representatives from Swagat Holiday Treks & Expedition outside the airport terminal. A signboard that “Swagat Holiday Treks & Expedition” will help you find these representatives easily. You can check into your hotel with them. You have a couple of options as to how you spend your day/evening. Either you can relax in the hotel or you can go for exploring small towns likes Thamel on your own.

Day 02: Pre-Trip meeting in the morning and sightseeing tour in Kathmandu.
You will meet our representatives from Swagat Holiday Treks & Expedition in the morning and discuss your Salleri (Phaplu) Everest Base Camp Trek. In this pre-Trip meeting, you will have plenty of information about the weather, difficulty, etc. during the trip. You can meet your guide and meet the various members of your trip.
You will get for a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu valley after the briefing. The many UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu make it a beautiful place for an excellent sightseeing tour.
Pashupatinath Temple:
Pashupatinath Temple lies on the bank of the Bagmati River, is one of the holiest sites in Kathmandu. It is the biggest Hindu temple in the world. The main temple is two-storeyed. It also has smaller monuments as well as places for pilgrimage surrounding it.
Baudhanath and Swayambhunath
Baudhanath and Swayambhunath are the most famous Buddhist temples you will go to on this trip. The feel of the Buddhist culture as well as the peaceful setting of these two monasteries is made for a wonderful visit to these places.
You will also get to two Durbar Squares- Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Square- during this trip. Historical temples like Krishna Mandir, Hanuman Dhoka, museums, and other smaller temples make these two squares some of the most delightful in this trip. You can see the perfect representations of medieval architecture of Nepal in these two squares.

Day 03: Drive to Pokhara (820m/2690ft), Duration: 7-8 Hrs
After breakfast, we will take a bus to Pokhara on Nepal’s main busy, scenic highway, an interesting overland journey on the Himalayan foothill. On reaching Pokhara transfer to respective hotels by the serene Phewa Lake where most of the good tourist standard hotels and restaurants located. For flying option scenic flight of 35 minutes on reaching Pokhara airport, our staff will transfer you to respective hotels by the Phewa Lake with a free afternoon. We will visit some prime spots in the lake city after refreshing at our hotel we will do a tour of some beautiful places in Pokhara that include David’s fall (if we reach early by road), and the Phewa lake, etc. we then do an overnight at our hotel by the lake in the lovely “city of Lakes”.

Day 04: Drive to Nayapul (1050m/3444ft) & Trek to Ghandruk (1950m/6396ft), Duration: 2 Hrs drive, 4-5 Hrs walk
We drive for another one and a half hours to reach Nayapul; the starting point of our trek. From Nayapul we start out trek along the sub-tropical Modi Khola river valley towards Birethanti. At Birethanti we make a stop at the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP)’s checkpoint. After completing the permit check process out trail heads north up the Modi Khola valley over a rough dirt road trail that ends at Kimche. From there we will climb the stone-paved trail all the way up to Ghandruk village. The village is inhabited by Gurung tribe communities and is an amazing example of stonework. There are several tea houses and other services at Ghandruk. We will stay overnight in a local lodge at Ghandruk.

Day 05: Trek from Ghandruk to Tadapani (2590m/8495ft), Duration: 4-5 Hrs
From Ghandruk we will follow the main trail that heads from the northwestern end of the village towards Tadapani. Our trek is a gradual climb through dense forest filled with rhododendron and oak trees where we will have the opportunity to spot several species of birds and wild animals. We will arrive at a place called Bheri Kharka where there are few tea shops. The area is a paradise for bird lovers as we trek along with mesmerizing sounds of birds chirping. We will continue our trek until we arrive at Tadapani for our overnight stay.

Day 06: Trek from Tadapani to Ghorepani (2874m/9426ft, Duration: 5-6 Hrs
From Tadapani we will follow the trail that starts with a short descends to cross over a small stream and climb uphill towards Banthati where few tea houses and other facilities are. We continue our trek with several ascends and descends through beautiful oak forests to reach the village of Ghorepani. From here we will have magnificent views of Annapurna South, Himchuli, Machhapuchhare (Fish-Tail), and other fascinating snow-capped peaks. We will stay overnight in a local lodge at Ghorepani.

Day 07: Hike to Poon Hill (3210m/10528ft), the trek from Ghorepani to Tatopani (1190m/3903ft), Duration: 7-8 Hrs
We will make an early morning hike up to Poonhill for enjoying the sunrise view over Mt. Dhaulagiri (8168m), Annapurna South (7219m), Machhapuchhare (6997m), Tukuche Peak (6920m), Hiunchuli (6441m) and other numerous snowcapped mountain peaks. Then, we continue our trail downhill passing through Ghar Khola and head towards Tatopani. The magnificent view of Mount Nilgiri can be seen from Tatopani. On our route, we can see a variety of wild animals, birds with eye-catching waterfalls, and sceneries along the way. At Tatopani, we can enjoy and relax at the natural hot spring bath where the water is approximately about 60 degrees hot. We will stay overnight in a local lodge at Tatopani.

Day 08: Trek from Tatopani to Ghasa (2010m/6592ft), Duration: 6-7 Hrs
From Tatopani, we will trek on a broad motor road trail that can be quite dusty. Our trek goes along the Kali Gandaki River. We will gradually ascend passing through the magnificent waterfall of Rupse Charara. We continue to trek along the dusty trail that leads through deep gorges where we can hear the huge flows of the river stream and continue trekking to reach the village of Ghasa. We will stay overnight in a local lodge at Ghasa.

Day 09: Trek from Ghasa to Marpha (2670m/8757ft), Duration: 6-7 Hrs
Leaving Ghasa we will follow the trail that goes through the forest along the banks of Lete River and heads towards Lete. From there we trek along the east side of Kali Gandaki valley to reach Larjung village. We will continue our trek until we arrive at the apple garden of Marpha. Marpha is a picturesque stone-flagged village surrounded by apple orchards from which the locals produce cider and brandy. We will stay overnight in a local lodge at Marpha.

Day 10: Trek from Marpha to Kagbeni (2800m/9184ft), Duration: 5-6 Hrs
From Marpha we will follow a broad trail that goes along the east bank of the river towards Ekle Bhatti. From here we will continue to trek along the bottom of the valley to reach the village of Kagbeni. Kagbeni is a settlement of narrow flagstone paved paths and houses with flat rooftops. Beyond the village, we enjoy stunning views of the Gompa with Nilgiri, Tilicho Peak, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri rising above us. We will stay overnight in a local lodge at Kagbeni.

Day 11: Trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath (3795m/12447ft), Duration: 4-5 Hrs
Leaving Kagbeni we will follow the trail that ascends steeply to the upper valley with magnificent views of Dhaulagiri, Tukuche Peak, and the Kali Gandaki Valley. We will pass through one of the oldest villages in t region-the village of Jharkot where the culture and tradition are largely influenced by Tibetan culture. From there we will climb all the way to reach an important pilgrimage site for Buddhist and Hindus- Muktinath. The holy shrine is a Buddhist Gompa and a pagoda­-style temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. From here we can enjoy magnificent views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Tukuche Peak, and other chains of snow-topped high peaks. We will stay overnight in a local lodge at Muktinath.

Day 12: Trek from Muktinath to Jomsom (2713m/8898ft), Duration: 4-5 Hrs
From Muktinath, we will follow the trail that leads to Jharkot. From here we will avoid the motor road by following a small irrigation stream to reach Khingar. However, here onwards we will have to follow the road route that will lead us all the way to Jomsom. Jomsom is the main administrative center and headquarters of Mustang. After arriving at Jomsom, we will celebrate the completion of our wonderful lower Mustang trek. We will stay overnight in a local lodge at Jomsom.

Day 13: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara, Free day at Pokhara for sightseeing.
We take an early morning scenic flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. Pokhara is home to thick forest, emerald lakes, and a place of remarkable natural beauty. The reflection of the Machhapuchhare (Fish-Tail) Himal over the serene Fewa Lake makes this place truly magical. Besides, visiting a sacred place and sightseeing around the city in Pokhara could be a good way to spend your day. We will stay overnight in a hotel at Pokhara.

Day 14: Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu (1400m), Duration: 7-8 Hrs
After wake up early morning at 7:30 am we will take the standard tourist bus; departure daily from near to Lakeside Pokhara and 7-8 hours’ drive on Prithivi highway. The distance between Pokhara to Kathmandu is only 205 km but it requires a complete day drive because of the small and Jig-jag road as well as the traffic on the road.
The buses stopping along the high way for breakfast, lunch, and toilet, and it is a scenic drive. Although it is a long drive but definitely enjoyable and fun trip as well. Except for the tourist bus the public buses and micro-buses departure 5 hours to 16 hours from Prithivi Chowk Pokhara. We will stay overnight in a hotel at Kathmandu.

Day 15: Final departure to back home
The fascinating adventure and cultural exploration Upper Mustang Trek end here by today. We hope you had a memorial and fantastic adventure with us in the Himalayas. As per your international flight scheduled you will be transferred to Kathmandu international airport 4 hours before the flight time.
Before leaving for the airport, you need to confirm that you have secured tour air ticket as well as other travel-related documents. We wish you have a wonderful departure back home. We can also arrange for another trip to Nepal in case you want to.
