Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m)

          Our airport representative will welcome you to Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu upon your arrival. He/she will escort you to the respective hotel in a private vehicle. Your prior trip meeting will be scheduled for the very day at the Hotel before dinner. However, our airport representative will give you a brief idea about the second day's schedule on your way to the hotel. During this meeting, we will introduce you to your leader/guide. Please do not hesitate to ask questions about your trek or anything that is related to your trip. To make you feel comfortable, we host a welcome dinner for you in a popular restaurant in the city where you can enjoy authentic Nepali meals along with cultural programs including ethnic dance and songs. And the night you will be spending at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Shopping and trip preparation

We will organize a team meeting where you will meet fellow climbers and team leaders. Expert veteran climbers will brief you about the nature of the expedition, equipment, and team composition. You can purchase any personal items that you might need in your stay at the Himalayas. Experts will check the stuff you have brought along to see if they are feasible and in good working condition or not. If the equipment doesn’t match the standard, you might have to replace them with new ones.

Day 03: Fly to Lukla (2,804 m) and trek to Phakding (2,652 m), Duration: 35 min flight and 3-4 hour walk

An early morning start takes us to the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu for the 35 minutes scenic flight to Tenzing and Hillary Airport at Lukla (2,804 m).On arrival at the airport, the guide will brief you and introduce your porters before we begin our trek towards Phakding (2,610 m). After landing you’ll have time to explore the village while our Sherpa crew sort and load our trekking equipment. Then the trek begins by descending towards the Dudh Koshi River where you’ll join the main trail to Namche Bazar, Located just above Chunrikharka (2,713 M). This walk is considered to be a short hike that will help you to acclimatize. After almost three to four hours of walk, you will reach Phakdhing. There are many beautiful monasteries to visit, beautiful Lukla village and a breathtaking terrain to view. There are many resting places and lodges in Phakding and you will be staying in one of this lodge tonight.

Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,441 m), Duration: 5-6 hours

You will continue trekking along the banks of the Dudh Koshi, crossing the majestic river many times on exciting suspension bridges laden with prayer flags. After entering the Sagarmatha National Park, the trail climbs steeply with breathtaking views. You can find many good restaurants, hotels, lodges shop, money exchange, bakeries, and teahouses as Namche is the biggest village along the whole Everest trail. Major attractions of this day are amazing views of Mt. Kusum, Lhoste, Nuptse, and the first Glimpse of Mt.Everest. You will stay in a guesthouse tonight.

Day 05: Acclimatization Day (Rest Day)

The entire day will be spent in Namche so as to adjust with the thin air and the environment. Accommodate your body to the high altitude of Namche as you have gained much height the previous day. Namche is an important acclimatizing spot. It is always advisable to remain active instead of sitting ideal during the day. Today, we hike to Thame or visit Kunde or explore Namche Bazaar itself. Namche Bazaar is the main center of the Khumbu region has numerous cafes, government offices, banks, etc. we trek a few hundred vertical feet to acclimatize efficiently.

You will go to Everest View Hotel for a better view of the mountains and you can visit the National Park Headquarters, Monasteries, and the Museum. We can visit the Sherpa Cultural Museum or the Kunde hospital set up by Sir Edmond Hillary. You can go on a short hike to the Syangboche Airstrip and the Everest View Hotel. The awe-inspiring views of the entire Himalayan range including Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kusum Kangaru will fascinate you.

Evening time can be spent by roaming around the market areas. This night will also be spent in a lodge in Namche Bazaar.

Day 06: Trek to Tengboche (3,867m), Duration: 5 Hrs

The trek for today will start shortly after breakfast. Today you will follow the trails along the glacial water of Dudh Koshi up till the altitude of 3,867 m. On your way, you can enjoy the phenomenal view of the Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. Thamserku Mountain is an exit in the close vicinity of the trail, Along with the lush of the temperate vegetation including Rhododendron, Oak, and Juniper, etc. You might also get a glance of wild fauna like Himalayan that, Musk deer, Snow Leopard, and different varieties of birds prevailing in the region. Upon reaching Tengboche; you can visit the famous Tengboche Monastery decorated with beautiful Sherpa art and beautiful wall hangings. You will stay overnight at lodge in Tengboche.

Day 07: Trek to Dingboche (4,350 m), Duration: 5 Hrs

From Tengboche, the trail drops to Debuche crosses another exciting suspension bridge on the Imja Khola and climbs to Pangboche amongst thousands of Mani stones. Your uphill trek continues, taking you to the quaint traditional Sherpa village of Dingboche with its exquisite view of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam. You will spend the night to avoid being affected by altitude.

Day 08: Acclimatization hike to Nangkartshang Peak (5,083 m), Duration: 4 Hrs

This day is planned as acclimatization day. You don’t make progress towards Everest Base Camp. Instead, you will take a hike to Nangkartshang peak just above Dingboche. The Peak is an excellent viewpoint of especially of the gorgeous Ama Dablam. If the weather is clear, you will get to see Ama Dablam from its summit to its feet. You can spend the afternoon strolling over the village or resting.

Day 09: Trek to Lobuche (4,910 m), Duration: 5 Hrs

          Today the trail continues along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and passes by stone memorials for climbers who have perished on nearby summits. You will continue as heading to the village of Labuche which is located at the foot of giant Lobuche Peak. Due to change in air density as the air density gets lower and lower and some of you may be facing breathing problems starting from this point. You will stay in the guesthouse tonight.

Day 10: Trek to Everest Base Camp (5365 m), Duration: 8 Hrs

We start our trek early from Lobuche to Everest Base Camp via Gorak Shep and Kalapathar. After breakfast, we will trek up the rocky moraine path above the valley. We can view the frozen pond and icebergs of the Khumbu Glacier. A short downhill trek will lead you to Gorak Shep. Gorak Shep is the original location where Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay set up their Camps. A gradual walk in a rocky path and an uphill climb for half an hour will bring you to Kalapathar. A panoramic view of the Himalayan range awaits you in Kalapathar. We will take a break and snap as many pictures as we can. The view of Mt Everest in a stunning close-up along with Mt Nuptse and Mt Lho-La will captivate you. The breathtaking view of the snowcapped mountains is a memory that you will cherish for a lifetime.

We will resume our trek after a break to Everest Base Camp. The trail passes through ice pinnacles and crevasses of the Khumbu Glacier. The Everest Base camp will be bustling with fellow climbers from various other expedition teams. The colorful tents on a backdrop of white snow mountains are a thing of beauty. We will set up our tents and accommodate ourselves. This place is going to be our home for the next couple of months.

During spring there will likely be expedition teams about to attempt the summit. The view of the Khumbu Icefall from Base Camp is spectacular.

Day 11-54: Climbing Period of Mt. Everest (8848m/29028ft.)

The route is technically a trekking route with little danger once you pass the Khumbu icefall. However, there are a few crevasses and sera’s bridged by ladders and a couple of short ice cliffs at around Camp III, along with rock sections protected with fixed lines. The complications of high altitude sickness can be fatal. The weather at the mountain can be unpredictable and changeable at times.

The most dangerous part of the climb is the Khumbu icefall. It is a steep glacier with a prominent presence of large crevasses and deceptive unstable sera. This hurdle makes the navigation process complicated and the high objective danger of falling ice intensifies. The Sherpa will aid the climbing process by installing ladders across crevasses and along vertical sera ice walls at the beginning. This process will set the route through the icefall and make the climbing efficient, safe, and effective.

Ascend to the summit is done in the early hours of the morning because the ice is well frozen. The intense sunlight in the afternoon warms the area that makes the friction between the ice structures less and increases the chances of crevasses opening or blocks of ice falling. This crucial factor makes the Khumbu icefall quite dangerous to attempt in the afternoon.

We start as early as possible to avoid strong afternoon winds in the summit. Expert climbers from our team will guide you and coordinate the expedition. The Sherpa guides will help us by carrying our equipment. There will be a total of four Campus set up on the ascent to the summit.

Camp I: Height (6400m/20997 ft.)

Camp I is situated in a flat area of endless snow deep crevasses and mountain walls, on the top of the Khumbu Icefall. Because of the sun’s reflection from this place, we get warm and heating ambiance at day and the nights are cold to the strong gust of winds flowing on the mountain. In the night we listen to the deep murmuring cracking sounds of crevasses beneath our tent. These are the areas where we have to walk to reach camp II. The glacier between Camp I and Camp II is flat. The large crevasses close to Camp I get fixed with ladders. Camp I is resting and transition area before moving to Camp II.

Camp II: Height (6750m/22145 ft.)

Camp II is situated at the height of the 6750m, which is located at the foot of the icy mount Lhotse wall though where we have to go ahead. It is a safe and sheltered location with spectacular views of Mt Lhotse. The Camp will be set up with individual tents, the kitchen and dining tents. Weather is here is good but bad clouds roll in from the low range of the Himalayan valleys to the bottom of our camp II. But wind here sometimes seems very violent enough to destroy our tents. The Camp II is also the main acclimatization Camp and the base for acclimatization climb to Camp III. After climbing these places we reach camp III.

Camp III: Height (7100m/23293 ft.)

Camp III is located at the height of 7100m, adjoining to mount Lhotse divider, get achieved with help of a fixed rope. After climbing the 4000 ft., Lhotse wall by using fixed rope, and with prior acclimatization it leads us to camp IV. Also on the way we have to ascend the steep allow bands (lose, down-slopping, and rotten limestone). From their crossing short snowfield, the route moves ahead up the Geneva Spur to the east before finishing the flats of the south col. (another wall name meaning Saddle of the pass). The oxygen levels will be dipping fast at this altitude. In case of any inconvenience, there is supplementary oxygen. However, most climbers won’t require supplementary oxygen until Camp IV. The glacier is crossed through the right side, with a 40 degree 600m climb on the snow. The route is safe with a couple of ice cliffs less than 3 meters.

Camp IV: Height (8400m/27559 ft.)

Now we are at Camp IV which located at the height of 8400m. It is the last camp of the Expedition. From here the summit is about 500m, a distance far. This is the final and dangerous part of climbing. This place is besieged by ferocious and violent winds. The normal best way to reach the summit is via the narrow south-ease ridge and it precedes the south summits 28710 ft. From here the way is easy to reach the summit of the Everest (8848m/29029 ft.); and late sir Edmund Hillary and I Tenzing Norge Sherpa used this route in 1953.

The climb to the summit starts from Camp IV, the last section of the southeast ridge. It is steep mostly with snow and rock section. The entire route gets fixed with ropes for the safety of climbers. Supplemental oxygen is available as almost every climber gets affected by altitude and impaired judgment due to lack of oxygen.

Day 55: Trek from Everest Base Camp to Pheriche, Duration: 6 Hrs

We will descend to the village of Pheriche. The trek will be naturally faster as we will be trekking downhill. We will have an elevation change of almost 1000m. Such a considerable elevation change would not have been possible if we were acceding. We will rest and spend the night at Pheriche.

Day 56: Trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar, Duration: 6-7 Hrs

We will be descending an incredible 20 km on the trek from Pheriche to Namche Bazaar. The most extended trek of our journey is effortless because we will be descending mostly. As we go downhill, the oxygen levels increase, and we will be able to breathe more naturally and altitude sickness will gradually disappear. We will pass through many landmarks like the Tengboche monastery and others to reach Namche Bazaar. A hot shower and Wi-Fi await you at Namche. You will stay at Namche Bazaar for the night.

Day 57: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla, Duration: 5-6 Hrs

We will trek back to Lukla passing through the village of Phakding. The descent from Namche to Dudh Koshi can be quite challenging. The non-stop slope places will test you to the core. After crossing the suspension bridge, the path will become more or less smooth. We walk through rhododendron forests overlooking the snow-capped mountains for one last time. We will stay overnight at a lodge in Lukla.

Day 58: Fly back from Lukla to Kathmandu

You will fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla on a thrilling flight overlooking the snow-capped mountains for one last time.

Day 59: Free day in Kathmandu

You will have a free day in Kathmandu. You can go last minute shopping or relax in Thamel, which is a tourist hub in Kathmandu. A celebratory dinner in the evening will mark the successful end of the expedition.

Day 60: Final departure to home country

Last day in the country of high beautiful Himalayas as per your international flight transfer to Kathmandu international airport for homeward bound or to next port of call after a wonderful and overwhelming adventure on Mt. Ama Dablam Expedition and trekking with great service and management of Swagat Holiday Treks & Expedition.

This will be your final day in this awesome country of the Himalayas Nepal. We will drop you at the airport a couple of hours before your scheduled flight. Before leaving for the airport, you need to confirm that you have secured tour air ticket as well as other travel-related documents. We wish you have a wonderful departure back home. We can also arrange for another trip to Nepal in case you want to.
